What is Crit Club?
Crit Club is a fun, hands-on program for teens who love to make art — or just want to try something new! Each month, a different local artist leads a creative workshop and critique session where teens can explore new materials, learn techniques, and share their work in a supportive, no-judgment space. From painting and collage to printmaking and sculpture, each session offers insight into the artistic process while encouraging connection, creativity, and self-expression.
How it Works
- Artist Presentations: Each session kicks off with a short presentation from a professional artist, offering insight into their practice, medium, and creative process. Students will learn about the techniques they use, the challenges of being an artist, and gain inspiration they can apply to their own work.
- Workshop Sessions: Following the presentation, students take part in a hands-on workshop inspired by the artist’s practice. This gives participants the chance to explore new techniques and materials or refine their existing skills under the guidance of a professional.
- Pizza Break: Take a break to relax, grab a slice, and chat with other teens. It’s a chance to refuel, share ideas, and connect before getting back to creating.
- Critique & Feedback: Once everyone’s finished creating, students are encouraged to share their artwork with the group for a constructive critique session. This feedback fosters artistic dialogue, giving students the chance to gain new perspectives and refine their work based on insights from their peers and the guest artist — no stress, just learning, encouragement, and community.
Exhibition Opportunity
Crit Club members also have the exciting opportunity to showcase their work in a professional exhibition at the Vernon Public Art Gallery. This exhibition serves as a culmination of their hard work, offering them a platform to display their art to the public and receive recognition for their creative efforts.

RSVPs are encouraged so we know how much pizza to order — but walk-ins are welcome!
