Family Saturdays takes place on the last Saturday of each month with an art project suitable for little kids and big kids alike. The workshop starts promptly at 1 p.m each month and families are welcome to stay the entire session from 1 p.m to 3:30 p.m, or leave earlier. All materials for the workshops are supplied.

We invite parents and guardians to bring their little ones under the age of 5 to explore art making with non- toxic materials in this fun and social program that encourages creative self-expression while developing fine and gross motor skills and sensory awareness. All are welcome to create, and make sure you dress for mess! Parents must accompany children for the duration of the session, admission is by donation.
This month we will be viewing Descent into Classicism, an exhibition by Glenn Clark. This exhibition features images of knights, dolls, and astrological symbols. After viewing, we will be making our own dolls and knights.

This month we will be viewing Emergence, an exhibition by UBC-O graduating BFA students. We will then make multimedia sunflowers using seeds, paint, and other materials!

We will begin our session by viewing Robert Fee’s exhibition, Accidentals. Robert Fee’s work uses a collage approach to inform the composition and idea generation in his paintings. Inspired by the exhibition ,we will be painting and collaging.

Sierra, our Learning and Community Engagement Curator, will begin the workshop by touring the current exhibition that is on display. Afterward, she will lead you through a hands-on art activity inspired by the artwork.

We will begin our session with a tour of the exhibition by our most recent artist-in-residence at Mackie Lake House. After our tour, we will decorate houses!
This session will begin with a tour of the exhibition Illuminated Language, by Edmonton-based artist Dick Averns. This exhibition draws on multiple bodies of text-based art spanning over three decades of the artist’s career. in response to the themes of the exhibition, we will be making collages and printmaking.
