About the Artist
Kel Taylor was born and raised on the unceded traditional and ancestral territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She spent much of her adult life on the east coast of Canada before returning to British Columbia, where she now lives and works on the unceded traditional and ancestral territory of the Syilx Okanagan People.
Kel’s formal art training began with a degree in Occupational Therapy, though it wasn’t until 2017 that she began to study drawing and painting in earnest, both in the UK and Canada.
Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media on cradled wood panels, Kel uses a variety of tools to explore the marks, gestures, and layers needed to tell her stories. What began as a deeply personal process of understanding and integration has evolved into a practice centered on connection and shared experience.
Kel believes that finding common ground — remembering that we are all in this together — is more important now than ever in a world that can feel divided. Her work invites viewers to “come home” to themselves and to one another, recognizing the powerful role art plays in fostering empathy and belonging.
